I appreciate what you presented about the parent being a cheerleader. I have found that I expend tons of energy trying to motivate my kids, and then I just get grouchy when they don't respond. I tried what you suggested and I just felt better within myself. I never noticed before how when I was cheering my kids on,I would get such a knot in my stomach. I didn't feel that when I was just mirroring my child's body language. When they started to talk I felt real enthusiasm versus the forced one they were seeing. Maybe that's is why it works?

Hi Kathryn, I'm happy to provide the reminder. I hope your joyful and loving moments with your children are many! I know that the more we have of those moments, the easier it is to handle the challenging moments... and the fewer challenging moments we tend to have. Much love to you and your family, Maggie

Starting with what is realistic and do-able for you is really important - thanks for your input on this ArDar. When I first started listening to hear myself think I must admit that the time I found to "set aside" for this was the time in my car driving to work! I started small with simply deciding to turn off the tape deck and notice what was going on inside of me. I also set the intention to connect with nature as I drove through whatever nature I could find. BIG revelations popped up for me, helping me to make major inner shifts that have continued to affect my life today. I will share those with you in the next video.
I'm wondering if in there is a way you can create "self" time in the midst of those moments when you are dashing from one thing to the next. Ultimately we are looking for ways to be centered and present even in the midst of chaos and turmoil, so why not start with this moment, right now... and this one... and this. Check in frequently and notice your feelings, thoughts, and physical sensations in your body. And see how many ways you can appreciate nature without needing to go to a special place to do so. Nature is all around us... the tree outside the window; the green grass of Vancouver; even the plants inside. We don't have to go to a park to connect with it. Maggie

I enjoyed your focus on the connection between nature and self here, Maggie! In the more rural areas like the Okanagan, finding a place in nature is easier than it is here in Vancouver. My problem is that when I DO find time for myself, I have so many things I need to do that I feel like my "self" time is a mere distraction and needs to be used for all the other things I need to get done in a day! I think starting small is a plan: 2 minutes this week, five next week, ten, and ideally half an hour a day--the busier you are, the more precious just two minutes is to you!!
