9 Ways PARENTING COURSE & LEADERSHIP TRAINING

“This is a phenomenal course that teaches more than just parenting skills.  It is a revolutionary approach to parenting leadership in that it combines heart, wisdom, spirit, and love with practical and hands-on tools and ideas.  It brought me back to my inner wisdom and intentions and empowered me to look within first to create the family vision I want/have.  It is amazing to see the instant manifestation of my parenting intentions! …tangible results within hours of doing the exercises at your workshop!  You have made it easy for me to apply these tools at home.
I find 9 ways to be the ultimate guide to creating and building a rich and meaningful relationship with my children, family, and even my work.  Thank you, Maggie, for your inspirational stories and your “guilt-free” way to parenting!  You have over-delivered on my expectations.”

  • Are you sometimes confused about how to teach your child appropriate behavior and still behave appropriately yourself?

This course based on Maggie Reigh’s book, 9 Ways to Bring out the Best in You and Your Child shows you how to raise children full of life and spirit, maintain your sanity, and have fun at the same time! Get involved and explore how to bring your deepest values to life in your family. Enjoy stories, anecdotes and interactive learning experiences as you gain practical tools that bring out the best in you and your child.

We’ll explore how to

  • Turn power struggles into powerful relationships.
  • Discipline in ways that strengthen, rather than damage your child’s self esteem and your relationship.
  • Increase co-operation and teach your child to take the initiative in completing chores.
  • Help your child develop empathy and compassion.
  • Give your child the tools and inner strength to deal with unhealthy peer pressure.
  • Teach your child respect, resiliency and self-reliance.
  • Help your child gain self-control and teach him to release frustration and anger appropriately.
  • Encourage your child to take responsibility for his misbehaviour and make amends.
  • Connect deeply and develop meaningful communication in your home.
  • Discipline in ways that develop self-discipline and self-motivation.
  • Add more life, laughter and learning to your home.
  • Increase your child’s “Emotional Intelligence” and improve your own at the same time!
  • Recognize and transform unwanted communication patterns you “inherited” from your parents!

Participants continually comment on the applicability of the skills they learn in this course to every relationship in their lives: to spousal and partner relationships, to business relationships, and to the relationships they have with their own parents!

Two Ways to Bring the 9 Ways Program to Your Community
Schools, Agencies and Family Service Groups are invited to register staff who will be provided with the training to coach parents in their community to lead this course.

Step 1: Option “A”

1. Your organization purchases the program and selects staff to be Program Leaders. Program leaders are people already familiar with facilitating parent education.
2. The Program Leaders receive information and guidance in recruiting people who want to be trained as parent education facilitators.
3.  Program leaders organize the space and attend the facilitator training along with the people they have recruited (10 to 15 people per group). The facilitator training consists of:
            a. Part 1: All participants experience the 9 Ways Course as if they were participating as a parent coming to the course for the first time.  This means attending one session per week for seven weeks and applying the tools to their own lives.  (Teleconference sessions can be provided where weekly travel is not feasible.)
b. Part 2: Three additional full days complete the second, facilitator training part of the course and will be led by Maggie Reigh in person. All parents and coaches attend and participate.
4. The Program Leaders coach the participants who have been trained to promote and co-facilitate the 9 Ways course for parents in a variety of settings.

9 Ways parent facilitators have delivered the course to:

  • friends around the kitchen table
  • church communities
  • parents whose children attended the same preschool or other function while the child was busy with their activity
  • groups organized by PAC committees
  • parents who responded to radio, TV and newspaper public service announcements
  • parents from various work settings
  • groups organized by agencies that provide service to parents
  • aboriginal communities interested and involved with parenting
  • people brought together through a variety of creative and industrious ways initiated by newly trained facilitators

5.  Once facilitators have fulfilled their commitment to deliver one full course in exchange for their training many continue to facilitate courses as a way to bring in a supplemental income for their families and to deepen the use of the course’s tools to build healthy relationships and harmonious environments in their own lives.

Here’s what parents are saying about the 9 Ways Leadership Training

“Enlightening, powerful, revitalizing! I am so excited about
sharing this info with as many parents as possible.”

and has improved 100% every relationship in my life.”

“Eye opening, revolutionary and rewarding - Probably the best course I’ve ever taken in my life. When I started I couldn’t see myself as a facilitator, now I do.”

 Step 1 Option “B”

  • Practice presenting and facilitating concepts from the course
  • Explore ways to handle challenging situations in parent education groups
  • Share effective openings and closings
  • Discuss ways to adapt the course to specific needs and situations and get parents involved in parent education

The cost of the three day training is $500.00 per participant and includes the complete kit described above.  A minimum of 10 participants to a maximum of 18 are required to run the course.

  • This proposal requires a host agency to set the training up and provide the space.  The fee and kit for one participant from the host agency will be waived in appreciation of the work done by the host agency.

Philosophy & History of the
9 Ways Parent Leadership Course

With the intent of creating a community where learning about parenting is valued and sought after, this course was originally designed in 2003 to provide training to people who are passionate about parenting and enjoy communicating with others. These people were given the course training as well as additional facilitator training so that they can co-lead the course with another participant.
The first course trainings were provided free of charge to participants through a coalition of agencies in Kelowna BC (Parenting with Purpose). In exchange for the training, the newly trained parenting facilitators promoted the course and facilitated it in their own social and church groups, or to the community at large. Participants in their courses paid only for course materials.
After leading one course, many facilitators continue to lead the course and set their own course fees. Thus, parents receive intensive training in parenting skills, bringing about deep and significant changes in their families, gain advanced communication skills, and are able to bring in additional income by offering courses in the most important arena of their life, parenting. The confidence these facilitators develop and the advanced communication training in interpersonal skills is also a huge advantage and help to them in the workforce, or to re-entering the workforce when the time comes.
